Hutchison, Kenneth James Dr

HUTCHISON, KENNETH JAMES DR. - 1936 - 2024 Ken (fondly known as "Hutch" or "Dr. H" by many) passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024 at Sidney All Care Residence. Ken was born June 23, 1936, in Portadown, Northern Ireland to James Porter and Helen Maude Hutchison. He will be deeply missed. Ken obtained his M.B., B.Ch., B.A.O in 1961 at Queens University in Belfast and his M.D. in 1966, also at Queens. Ken met the love of his life, Jennifer, at a school dance in Portadown. The rest was history. They moved their young family to Edmonton, Alberta in 1969. Ken was an avid sailor and loved the outdoors. He was a voracious reader and his dry sense of humour was legendary. He was a wonderful father and husband, a mentor to many and always ready to share a laugh. Ken was a professor of Cardiovascular Physiology at the University of Alberta for almost 30 years. He and Jennie retired to Arbutus Ridge, B.C. in 1997 to enjoy their love of the outdoors and sailing full time. The loss of his beloved Jennie in 2001 was devastating to Ken. He remained in Arbutus Ridge and eventually remarried. Ken had been facing health challenges for years but dealt with them bravely. The care he received at Sidney All Care Residence was second to none and we are so grateful to the amazing staff there. Ken is survived by his second wife, Lilia; his son Keith and Keith's wife Shelley, his grandchildren, Charlotte and Michael; his daughter, Janet and her husband Vic; his sisters Mary and Gail and many other
