RICHMOND, SAMUEL SNR. - In memory of my father and all those who lost their lives or were injured as a result of the explosions which occurred on board the liner Reina Del Pacificio which was returning to Belfast after sea trials as the ship reached the point of approximately 7miles off Copeland Island at 16.26hrs on September 11, 1947, all 4 engines simultaneously exploded resulting in, my father's included, the deaths of 30+ workers and injuring a further 22 (figures released at the time were 27 dead, but did not include those who died in hospital or later succumb to their injury).
